of Activism

2nd floor Government Center

200 East Main Street

This multi-media exhibit by Joan Brannon explores the notion that the pace and intensity of social movement is aligned with the ancient and ancestral source of communication, The Drum.

Drawing from her body of work as a percussionist, documentary filmmaker, writer and activist, Brannon reveals the ever-present vibration of the drum in her work.  The show includes a recollection of the voices from Ky’s civil rights movement, post-apartheid South Africa, disenfranchised Ainu people of Japan, former residents of a housing projects facing demolition, the reconstruction and re-opening of the Lyric Theatre, as well as footage of other artists and activists.
